Prijepolje Municipality is located on the border of three countries: Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. It belongs to the Zlatibor region with its 827km2 area; it is the second largest municipality in the region.
The lowest point is the confluence of the Milesevska River and the Lim rivers - 440m of altitude. The highest point is the top of the mountain Jadovnik - Katunic - 1,734m of altitude.
Main roads to Montenegro go though Prijepolje, namely M21 via Bjelo Polje and M8 via Pljevlja as well as the railroad Belgrade - Bar.
According to the Census in 2002 Prijepolje had 41,188 inhabitants, which accounted for 13.14 % of the population of the Zlatibor region.
According to this Census the national structure was the following: Serbs - 56.8 %; Bosniaks - Muslims - 41.1 %, Others - 2.1%.
