Most important cultural institutions in the Municipality of Prijepolje are the Culture Club and the "Vuk Karadzic" Central Library.

Culture Club was established in 1979. Its activities are related to the promotion and development of culture and arts (visual, theater, music and film). Apart from that,  Culture Club has a long tradition of education and science-related activities, and it functions as a publishing house as well.

"Vuk Karadzic" Central Library is a public library used by Prijepolje citizens, with a status of a culture and education institution financed entirely from the municipal budget. As the oldest institution of culture in the municipality, in 2005 it celebrated its centennial anniversary.

Within the Central Library, there are two extended departments - Local Library "Stevan Tomovic" in Brodarevo and the Mobile Information and Communication Center (MICC) "InfoBus". This way the entire territory of the municipality, that is, both suburban and rural populations have access to the Library's services.

In 2001, Librarians' Association of Serbia honored the Central Library "Vuk Karadzic" with the "Milorad Panic Surep" award, in recognition of all results achieved in developing and improving librarian practices and standards in the Republic.

The Library possesses 77,338 books, a DVD/CD ROM collection of some 850 items and is currently subscribed to 35 publications. In 2006 its membership numbered 4,087 people, while in 2007 it increased by 35%. The Library also possesses 14 computers, 2 photocopiers, 4 printers, 2 lap tops and a digital projector.

The Library employs 10 people: 1 librarian-advisor, 2 senior librarians, 2 librarians,  3 assistant librarians, 1 accountant and 1 assistant.

Main activities of the Library:

· Lending books and magazines with a reading room;

· Children's section (for members under 15 years of age);

· Technical literature section with a separate reading room;

· Endowment and legacy section;

· Extended departments of the Library;

· Development, core activities, culture, education and publishing department;

· Planning, acquisition, processing and safeguarding department;

• Common affaires.

Prijepolje Museum  

The Museum in Prijepolje was officially registered in 1991, when the permanent exhibition was presented to the public. Local heritage collection was founded in 1956 and has been presented to the public periodically. The Museum is located in the building of the former Turkish Rushdia (High School), erected in the period between 1839 and 1845. Today, the Museum is the treasury of the cultural and historical heritage of the Lim valley region. The Museum has archeological, historical, art historical and ethnographical collections. Also, there is an exhibition area that can host theme exhibitions and other cultural events. Prijepolje Museum has the status of a regional museum for the territories of two municipalities - Prijepolje and Priboj.

Apart from these institutions of culture, there are several other associations and clubs in Prijepolje, such as Folklore Dance Ensemble, "St. Sava" Club and the Society for Bosniak Science, Culture and History "Ikre".

Folklore Dance Ensemble was founded in 2005, continuing the tradition of "Ljubisa Miodragovic" Culture and Art Society.

"St. Sava" Club tends to Serbian history and tradition, mainly by publishing the "Savindan" magazine.

"Ikre" - Society for Bosniak Science, Culture and History - was founded in 2001, with the intent of safeguarding Bosniak culture and tradition.


Prijepolje area abounds in cultural and historical monuments and heritage, dating to as far bask as the Roman times.

Some of the most significant monuments are:

•  Mileseva Monastery, built in the 13th century;

•  Vakuf Clock-Tower, built in medieval times;

•  Museum building in Prijepolje, built in the 18th century

•  Ibrahim Pasha's Mosque in Sarampovo, built in the 17th century;

•  Veselicic Residence (Fountain) in Prijepolje, built in the 19th century;

•  Kumanica Monastery in Gostun, built in the 15th century;

•  Davidovica Monastery in Brodarevo, built in the 15th century.
